Aigurande is a small, quiet town set in very rural rolling countryside. As with many small French towns, it has an active local community with frequent events throughout the year.

Church, school and college, 2 supermarkets (Intermarché is the main one), 3 bakers, 3 butchers, 2 delicatessens, 6 Bars, 2 Hotels with restaurants, 1 Pizzeria, 3 DIY outlets/Builders merchants, 2 electrical and gas shops, 4 banks and numerous other small shops. There is a Market every Friday for local produce and every second and last Friday in the month there is a general market selling everything from eggs to beds.

The Indre is one of the forgotten areas of France, being one of the most rural departments. It is part of the Berry Region where traditions are well kept and the area is well preserved it is at the extremities of the Loire Valley. Gite du La Boutellerie is only 5km from the Limousin border.

George Sand is the most well known and celebrated local author (1804-1876) with her own route that guides you through and around the country side of the Indre www.georgesand.culture.fr
At Argenton sur Creuse the Roman city of Argentomagus can be visited www.argentomagus.com
